Our story
1994: THE FIRST ZO•ON ADVENTURE
On a particularly grey day in tough conditions in 1994, Jón Erlendsson and Martti Kellokumpu decided to create the outdoor brand ZO•ON. Two passionate adventurers with a love of hiking, fishing, golf and skiing, they took every opportunity to get out into Icelandic nature. ZO•ON was their answer to the extreme weather that defines Iceland – dazzling sunshine, hail, biting northerly winds and what Icelanders call 'horizontal rain'.
There was no outdoor clothing that could handle Icelandic weather, and so that trip became the inspiration for ZO•ON. With Martti – a world champion skier – as head of design, together with Jón, the ZO•ON adventure began.
